The use of custom-made foot orthotics in rehabilitation or activity settings has increased dramatically to treat various pathologies of the lower kinetic chain.

Orthotic devices ("custom shoe inserts") are fabricated to correct structural and biomechanical imbalances which can affect different parts of the body as well as the feet.

Orthotics have been shown to successfully:

  • Decrease pressure points in footwear
  • Decrease callous and blister formation
  • Relieve aching or tired feet
  • Increase shock absorption
  • Reduce shin pain
  • Relieve symptoms of patellofemoral syndrome (knee pain)
  • Reduce the intensity and frequency of low back pain
  • Prevent or slow down further bunion (big toe joint) development
  • Correct walking or running gait
